Ruby M. Balum

Ruby M. Balum, 90, formerly of 318 Quarry Rd. Muncy, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Wolf Run Village, Hughesville.

Born June 13, 1925 in Allenwood, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel (Fritz) Eck. On June 13, 1946 she married Conrad Paul Balum, who preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1986. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage.

She was a 1943 graduate of the Montgomery/ Clinton High School. Ruby worked at the former Weldon’s, Montgomery and as a lunch lady at the Ward L. Myers Elementary School, Muncy.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy and the Muncy Fireman Auxiliary, where she formerly served as Treasurer.

Ruby enjoyed traveling, including to Europe. She loved dancing and butterflies. Most importantly, Ruby was a great mother and took pride in raising her family.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Desiree and Spencer Ritzen, of Quakertown, Lori and Jesse Hayhurst, of Pennsdale, Dana and Barbara Balum, of North Carolina and Lon and Elaine Balum, of Herndon;  three brothers and one sister-in-law, Glenn Eck, of FL., Fred and Cathy Wuestner, of  Dewart and Paul Wuestner, of WA.; one sister, Nancy Keister, of Allentown;  seven grandchildren and their spouses, Shepard and Stacy Ritzen, Kelsi and Steve Forester, Kellon and Meghan Balum, Kelly and Randy Haydt, Kyle Balum, Hilary Hayhurst and Rebecca Hayhurst; and one great-granddaughter, Avery Forester.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Ellette Balum.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at noon, with her pastor, the Rev. Arlene Beechert, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Ruby’s memory be made to the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA 17756.
