Born February 13, 1935 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Alvin Clayton “AC” Barnes and Mabel “Marvene” (Zarr) Barnes Flick.

George was a 1953 graduate of Muncy High School. George served honorably with the U.S. Army, stationed in Hawaii. He retired from the former Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz, working in the sheet metal department and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

He loved the outdoors, taking special interest in hunting, fishing and fossils. George was a gun smith and took pride in his gun collection of old military guns, American and foreign. He was a lifetime benefactor member of the NRA.

Other favorite pass times were “going out Glade Run” to visit his good friend, Jim Fenstermacher and walking over town to socialize at Heckman’s Barber Shop and to Rodney Houseknecht’s Antique Shop.

Surviving are a son, Steven Barnes, of Howard; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi Wodrig and Greg Sullivan, of Hughesville; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Larry Fales, of Red Lion; five grandchildren, Michael (Tamela) Barnes, Nicole (Shea) Coakley, Ryan (Larran) Wodrig, Brennan (Nicole) Wodrig and Colton Sullivan; and nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, Landen, Rocky and Elise Wodrig, Finn and Lundy Styrone and Mason Bales and Landon Coakley.
