Gary Allen Obituary

Gary D. Allen, 84, of Muncy, died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

Born August 16, 1939, in Estella, he was a son of the late Harvey and Gertrude (Boatman) Allen. 

Gary was a 1958 graduate of Muncy High School and attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College.  He worked many years at Sylvania, and later retired from the former American Home Foods, now Con-Agra.

Gary was an accomplished athlete and a member of the Muncy High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  He was a four year letter winner in football and wrestling, a three time District 4 wrestling champion, and runner up in the 1958 state wrestling tournament.  His wrestling success continued in college as he won the Teachers College Conference Championship in 1959.

Gary served honorably in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Roland Ritter American Legion Post 268, Muncy, for more than 50 years.

He was an avid hunter and fan of all sports, especially Penn State wrestling. 

Surviving are one son, Scott Allen and his wife Jill, of Lavelle; two daughters, Stacie Beaver and her husband Brian, and Jennifer Allen and her fiancé Alicia Differ, all of Muncy; seven grandchildren, Brandon Neilson, Jarrid Todd, Braden Beaver, Caleb Beaver, Cameron Beaver, Lindsey Allen and Gage Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Stephanie and Shawn Allen; five brothers, Arthur, William, Raymond, Warren and Lynnwood Allen; and five sisters, Edith Hess, Marion Lee, Jean Boatman, Shirley Nuss and Doris Allen.

Private family interment will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In keeping with his wishes, contributions in Gary’s memory can be made to the Muncy Athletic Hall of Fame, 206 Sherman St. Muncy, PA 17756.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the UPMC Hospice staff, especially Courtney, Corri, Kara, and Jessica for the care, love, and support they provided to Gary.
