Virginia Ann Carey

Virginia Ann "Ginny" Carey, 81, of Muncy, died on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Williamsport Home.

Born October 1, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy and Elizabeth (Sofian) Dodd. A 1962 graduate of Bay Ridge Girls High School in Brooklyn, she married William "Bill" Carey on December 18, 1965. They shared 48 years of marriage before his death on December 29, 2013.

Ginny devoted much of her life to the people and communities she loved. Her greatest joy was her family and her many friends, and she took particular pleasure in creating a warm and welcoming home for the people in her life.

A longtime active member of Church of the Resurrection in Muncy, Ginny gave generously of her time and talents to the parish. Over the years, she helped organize funeral luncheons, coordinated Passover dinners and pierogi sales, hosted dinners in her home for church leaders, and lent her energy and hospitality to countless other parish events and activities.

Ginny was also deeply involved in the Girl Scouts. She became a Girl Scout troop leader in 1974 and remained involved for many years, later serving as a camp counselor, notably at Camp Small Valley near Halifax.

A talented seamstress throughout her life, Ginny made most of her daughter Corinne's clothes when she was growing up. She also made dresses and other clothing for friends, performed countless alterations, and for many years put her sewing skills to work creating costumes for local high school plays.

Surviving are two children, Corinne Carey-Chaiken and her husband, David, of Troy, NY, and Elizabeth "Liz" Carey, of Muncy; a sister, Joann Gately and her husband, Robert, of Long Island; two beloved sisters-in-law, Lauretta Dodd, of NJ, and Dorothea Connolly, of CA; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Cathy Hickey, of NJ; and her beloved dog, Max.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, William Dodd; one sister, Barbara Phelan; and one brother-in-law, Kevin Connolly.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 at Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a prayer vigil will be held at 5:45 p.m.

Friends will be received again from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 20 at Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating.

Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, contributions in Ginny's memory may be made to Jim Keefer's All God's Creatures, 2760 Blair St., Montoursville, PA 17754. Donations help support the treatment and rehabilitation of neglected and critically ill dogs and cats.
