Thelma J. King, 84, a longtime resident of Mazeppa, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 8, 2025 at Nottingham Village.
She was born July 14, 1941 in Pardoe, a daughter of the late James E. and Helen Mae (George) Shaffer. She and her husband, Eugene F. King, celebrated 42 years of marriage before his death on July 27, 2005.
Thelma was a 1960 graduate of Mercer High School. She worked at the former Lewisburg United Methodist Home, now Asbury River Woods, beginning as a nurse’s aide and retiring in 1992 as a receptionist after 25 years.
She was a member of Buffalo Crossroads Community Church, Lewisburg, where she was active in VBS and preparing funeral luncheons. Thelma was also a member of the Shikelimo Chapter of the DAR, Lewisburg.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed attending club events and traveling with her husband.
Surviving are a son, Fred W. King, of Berwick; two daughters, Kim King, of Watsontown and Susan (Vince) Trego, of Northumberland; a brother, Milo Shaffer, of Grove City; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Colton Trego, Erica King Hollister, Sarah Fetterolf and Jessica King; and one great-grandchild on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Karen King; two brothers, Jim and Bill Shaffer; a sister, Priscilla Milks; and her loving dog, Mandy.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, December 12, at the Buffalo Crossroads Community Church, 954 Johnson Mill Rd., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
Burial will be held privately in Mazeppa Union Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Thelma’s name be made to the church.
The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
