Sarah A. “Sally” Smith, affectionately known as “Huggy Bear”, 99, of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born October 31, 1919 in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Jane (King) Marks. Sally and her husband, Arthur C. Smith, celebrated 48 years of marriage before his death June 25, 1991.
Sally loved animals and worked as an anesthesiologist at the former Muffley’s Veterinarian for 33 years. Generous and kind, she loved helping people. Sally retired from Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, where she worked as a nurse’s aide for 14 years.
Sally was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, where she also participated in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Slifer House Auxiliary, Heart Sisters and the New Columbia Senior Center.
Sally enjoyed crocheting and making crafts.
Surviving are a sister, Faylene Smith, of New Columbia; a brother, Harlan Marks, of Milton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Clay, Melvin and Grant Marks; and five sisters, Leona Stahl, Velda Marks, Gladys Kratzer, Hilda Herman and Blanche Brown.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with retired pastor, the Rev. John E. Lee, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Sally’s name be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 42 S. 4th St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
