Roy E. Hensel, 95, most recently of Lewisburg, died Monday, August 24, 2026, at Oak Glen Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewisburg.

Born November 15, 1930, in Auburn, Iowa, he was a son of the late William and Ruby (Egenes) Hensel. On September 4, 1965, he married the former Polonia Sliviak, who predeceased him.

Roy graduated high school in Iowa and served honorably in the United States Navy for 3 years, 11 months and 23 days. While in the Navy he spent time taking photos of both physical terrain from airplanes and of atomic bomb testing from the ground. Following his time in the Navy, Roy earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Houston.

Roy's time in the military shaped much of his life moving forward. He continued his love of photography his entire life, later taking up 3D photography. Roy also worked as a researcher in the graphic arts field, where he studied the application of inks on many different materials.

Roy was strong in his faith, supporting the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

He was an avid gardener and man of nature, enjoying planting flowers, vegetables, and trees, and spending time outdoors. Roy was also very interested in genealogy.

Surviving are a daughter, Michele Nardella and her husband, Dennis, of Loganton; a son, Alan Hensel and his wife, LuAnn, of Durham, NC; one brother, Harold Hensel and his wife, Mary, of Iowa; two grandchildren, Brent Nardella and his wife, Clara, and Rosalyn Nardella and her husband, Jesus Martinez; and one great-grandchild, Emory Nardella.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Marcia Miller; and two brothers, Jim and Art Hensel.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National cemetery.
