Romayne M. Swisher, 99, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully Monday, March 30, 2026 at her home.
Born December 10, 1926 in Danville, she was the youngest and last surviving child of the late Howard and Olive (Golder) Bitler. On December 20, 1946, she married Robert R. Swisher. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death October 29, 2000.
Romayne was a graduate of Danville High School. In her younger years she worked as a babysitter. Most of her life, Romayne worked as a machine operator at West Company, Montgomery, until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Montgomery Methodist Church.
Romayne enjoyed reading, gardening in her flower beds and watching Gun Smoke and NASCAR, rooting for her favorite drivers, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott and Davey Allison. Romayne loved going to McDonald’s for coffee and a happy meal with her daughters. She found beauty in white tigers and enjoyed collecting them. She also loved her cat.
Surviving are her two daughters, Cheryl E. Gansell and Linda D. Miller, both of Montgomery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one sister, three brothers and two siblings in infancy.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Rt. 54, Montgomery, with Jim Girven, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Romayne’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
