Robert L. Johnson, 78, formerly of Alaska and Texas, most recently of Catalina, AZ, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025 in Tucson, AZ.

Born September 18, 1946 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Lewis Johnson and Opal Smith.

Robert was a 1964 graduate of Muncy High School.

A decorated Vietnam War veteran, Robert served with extraordinary valor, leaving a lasting legacy of courage. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning his jump wings with the 101st airborne division before serving with the 25th infantry division in Vietnam from September 1967 to November 1968.

On 16 July 1968 in the Republic of Vietnam, Robert earned a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in action, a Bronze Star for his heroism while retrieving the radio from a fallen comrade under enemy fire to call in Air support. His second Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge reflect his bravery and direct ground combat while his Army Commendation Medal was awarded for exceptionally meritorious achievements.

He worked as a telephone lineman in Alaska and retired from Anchorage Telephone Utility.

Robert was an outdoorsman, he loved fishing and being on the water. He also enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley, watching all sports and going to baseball games.

He was an adventure to the end, going on road trips and exploring the United States from coast to coast.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Megan Loggins, of Catalina, AZ; two sons, Jesse Johnson, of West Milton and Nicholas Johnson, of Queen Creek, AZ; six grandchildren, Cade and Levi Loggins, both of Catalina, AZ, Alayne Smith, of Milton and Kamryn, Carly and Ivy Johnson, all of Queen Creek, AZ; two sisters, Ginger Saracino, of Berwick and Patricia Shumar, of Canton, OH; six nieces and four nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Johnson and nephew, Lance Clark.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
