Oakley Spring, 98, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Born December 4, 1925 in Muncy, he was the son of the late Leeman and Josephine (Gardner) Spring. He and his wife, the former Barbara J. Funston, celebrated 71 years of marriage before her death July 19, 2020.
Oakley was a graduate of Muncy High School and attended Lycoming College. He served honorably during World War II with the 1st Marine Air Division at Bougainville, Solomon Islands and post war in China. Oakley worked for the U.S. Postal service for 28 years, retiring in 1980 as the Muncy Postmaster. Following retirement, he and Barbara owned and operated Spring Antiques for 40 plus years.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Muncy and served for many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Oakley was an avid fisherman, hunter and collector of arrowheads and antiques. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and June Spring, of Michigan and Scott and Mia Spring, of Texas; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Winifred Sones; grandson, Aaron Spring; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Spring.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care provided by the staff at Wolf Run Village and at Muncy Place.
A graveside service was held for family and friends in the Muncy Cemetery with his pastor, the Rev. Charles Teffeteller, officiating.
The family was assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
