Mary Louise K. Houseknecht

Mary Louise K. Houseknecht, 94, of Muncy, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehab, Danville.

Born February 3, 1931 in Carbondale, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Pauline (Confer) Kahler. On May 29, 1954 she married Richard B. Houseknecht, who preceded her in death November 28, 2004. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Mary was a graduate of Muncy High School. Earlier in life, she worked as a secretary for PPL, Williamsport and at Michael’s Appliance Store, Muncy. Mary worked for many years as a sales clerk at the former Glosser Brothers, which became Value City, Muncy.

She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy and the Monsey Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star 481.

Mary enjoyed cooking and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Merk and her husband Daniel, of Muncy and Betsy Lazorka of Bedford County; a brother, William Kahler, of Hughesville; five grandchildren, Casey Engle, Mitchell Lazorka, Margaret Merk Beach and her husband Cody, Caitlyn Lazorka and Conner Lazorka and his wife, Cala; and one great-granddaughter, Finley Lazorka.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Lazorka; a brother, Donald and Martha Kahler; a sister, Barbara and Jim McClain; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Kahler.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 Tuesday, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Ben Lander, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Mary’s name be made to the church.
