Mary Ellen Culbertson

Mary Ellen Culbertson, 87, of Lewisburg, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on 3/31/26. She was loved dearly by family and friends.

Mary Ellen was born on January 27th, 1939, to Donald and Ellen McCuen in Elmhurst, IL. After moving with her brother, Don, and parents to Michigan, she graduated from White Pidgeon High School in 1957 and went on to study Business Management at Albion College and the University of Michigan.

After graduation, she went to work as a Buyer for Crowley’s Department Store, and then the J.L. Hudson Corporation in Detroit, MI. In 1962 she married Stephen Stieler of Wyandotte, MI, and in 1965 they gave birth to their son, Scott Stieler.

In 1973 Mary Ellen was remarried to Peter Culbertson of Long Island NY. They resided in St. Clair Shores, MI, Fox Chapel, PA, Syosset, NY, and Darien, CT before retiring to Lewisburg, PA to be closer to her son, Scott, and his family. Her husband, Peter, preceded Mary Ellen in death by nine years.

Throughout her life, Mary Ellen was active with AA and benefitted greatly from the program. For more than 45 years she served as a wonderful role model and mentor for those struggling with addiction and substance abuse. She always tried her best to improve the lives of others. Her AA family truly gave her much satisfaction and companionship over the years.

Mary Ellen had a great love for Golden Retrievers and raised many fine dogs in her lifetime. She travelled often to compete in dog shows, and built many lasting friendships. She also enjoyed reading, exercising, playing bridge, and dining out whenever she could.

Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Jenni, and her grandchildren, Sydney, Benjamin, and Kent. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends

A service of remembrance will be held at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home 106 S. 2nd St. Lewisburg, PA on Thursday April 9thwith Visitation starting at 2pm and Words of Reflection at 3pm.
