Lois W. Wertman

June 18, 1933 — October 3, 2020

Lois W. Wertman, 87, of Muncy, entered eternal life with Jesus on Saturday, October 3, 2020, while surrounded by her family.

Born June 18, 1933 in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of the late Mahlon and Louise (Clark) Winder. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul “Will” Wertman, who she married on November 17, 1962. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Lois was a 1951 graduate of Montgomery High School, after which she attended Lycoming College. One of her proudest accomplishments was writing the lyrics to her alma mater for  Montgomery Area High School .  In 1951, she wrote, "Hail to Thee," which is still sung at the school to this day. Lois previously worked at JC Decker Company, Montgomery and at the Lycoming County Courthouse in the register and recorder’s office and the treasurer’s office.

She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Montgomery, Bethany Lutheran Church, Montoursville, and is a current member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy.

A talented organist, Lois previously played at the New Covenant United Church of Christ, Williamsport and Christ Lutheran Church, Montgomery. She was also a substitute organist at several other local churches. Lois was a member of the Eastern Star, Williamsport Music Club and enjoyed accompanying several musicals at the Community Theater League.

She was an avid fan and booster club member of the Williamsport Crosscutters. Lois enjoyed history and taking annual trips to Williamsburg, VA and Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center near the Delaware Water Gap. She spent her free time reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching her favorite game shows.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her eight grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Bill Wertman, of Baltimore, MD and Thomas Wertman, of Muncy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Fred Simpson and Vickie and Gary Ward, all of Troy; a sister, Elinor Hallabuk, of Laporte; a brother-in-law, Wayne Bastian, of Delmar, DE; and eight grandchildren, Leah Ward, Emma Simpson, Trevor Ward, Connor Simpson, Braden Ward, Channah Wertman, Jackson Simpson and Lydia Ward.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Dolly Bastian; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Tom Winder and James and Gisela Winder; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Hallabuk.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St. Muncy, where a funeral will be held at 11a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Chris Raiford, officiating. For everyone’s safety we ask that all attendees adhere to the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask.
