John R. Fry, 79, a longtime resident of Pennsdale, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born July 9, 1947, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Raymond and Helen (Frost) Fry. On October 2, 1971, he married the former Sandra Hetrick, who survives. John was a 1966 graduate of Muncy High School.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Stacy, and his wife Amy Fry of Muncy, Jamie, and her husband Andy Worthington of Pennsdale, and Ty Fry, of Pennsdale; one sister, Susan Keller, of Pennsdale; 8 grandchildren, Lee, Karina, and her husband Jake, Jeffrey, Kassidi, and her partner Levi, Kyle, and his partner Isabella, Austin, Rayden and RyLynn; and 1 great-grandchild, Oaklynn. John loved his family and they meant the world to him. He could not be any happier when his great-grandchild was born.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Linda Fry.
His main passion was farming. John loved being in the tractor, which he preferred the red ones, whether it be planting corn or mowing hay. In the summer, he liked to drive around and check his crops. John liked having cows and watching them grow.
John was also the owner of Fry's Plastic, Pennsdale, since 1974. John really enjoyed being in the midst of the business. John used to deliver the pipe in the big truck to many of our customers. He enjoyed talking to the customers and salesmen on the phone. He enjoyed the company pig roast for 30 years because John got to meet the customers and their families. He always joked about the business being his home. John considered his employees part of the family
He was an avid supporter of Muncy Little League, serving on the board for 30 years. John always wanted to make baseball enjoyable for all the community. He helped get the first lights installed on one of the baseball fields at Kiess Park.
John was also a large supporter of the Eastern Lycoming YMCA. John first served on the Building and Grounds committee to get the building constructed. He pushed for the daycare facility. John became a trustee after his commitment to the building committee was completed.
He was a huge fan of Penn State football. John would be sitting in his recliner listening to the game on his radio while watching it on tv. John enjoyed watching Penn State wrestling. He also enjoyed watching the Phillies and Yankees playing baseball. On Sundays, John would be watching football and cheering on the Steelers.
Family and friends are invited from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17, at Grenoble Funeral Home, Main Street, Muncy, and at 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Pennsdale Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road, Pennsdale, where a funeral service will be held at Noon with Rev. David Dearing, officiating.
Burial will be held privately on the family farm.
