Muncy

James L. Muffly, Sr., 95, of Muncy, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Muncy Place.

Born September 14, 1930, he was the son of the late C. Jay and Ruth A. (Weaver) Muffly. On December 22, 1951, he married the former Shirley Seibert, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2022.

A 1948 graduate of Watsontown High School, Jim attended Bucknell University, graduating in 1952. He honorably served his country as both an enlisted U.S. Marine and Sailor before commissioning as a Naval Aviation Ground Officer. He served with Composite Squadron 4 aboard the USS Siboney in the Korean War, separating from active duty in 1956 and remaining in the reserves until 1962.

Following his military service, Jim began his civilian career as an assistant sales manager at Sprout Waldron Company in the industrial and chemical division. In 1958, he founded Tanglewood Construction Company, a venture he committed to full-time in 1962 and led until his retirement in 2012.

A man of community and faith, Jim was a devoted member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Muncy. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a 75-year member of the Watsontown Lodge #401 F&AM. His commitment to his community included service as an early member of the Muncy Jaycees, the Muncy Municipal Water and Sewer Authority, the Muncy Cemetery Board, and as a director at Muncy Bank & Trust Co.

Jim was active in the Boy Scouts, first as a youth in Watsontown and later as a Scout Leader for Troop 24. He cherished time spent restoring antique tractors and military vehicles with his son and grandsons. Connecting back to his early career, he also took great pride in restoring and demonstrating antique Sprout Waldron milling equipment.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James L., Jr. and Debra Muffly; his daughter, Karen M. Sebring; three grandchildren, Austin J. Muffly, and his wife, Brittnie, Matthew R. Sebring and his wife Jessica, and Megan C. Todorow and her husband Casey; and six great-grandchildren, Walker, Connor, Brylee, Reagan, Emilia, and Lilah.

A Masonic service will be held at 9:45 a.m. prior to the visitation. Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15th, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., officiated by his pastor, the Rev. Ben Lander. Burial with full military honors will take place at Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers. In lieu of other tributes, contributions in Jim’s name may be made to the March of Dimes or St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

The family extends its grateful thanks to the staff at Wolf Run Village and Muncy Place for their excellent care.
