Hedwig "Hedi" Campbell

Hedwig “Hedi” Campbell, 97, of Montoursville, died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Home, Montoursville.

Hedi was born in Erlenbach, Germany on July 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Otto and Else (Schaenbeck) Mueller. Her father, Otto, died when Hedi was 2 ½ years old. Else moved with Hedi and her five year old brother to Esslingen, Germany to be near close relatives.

Here Hedi grew up and attended school. After she graduated from gymnasium, Hedi attended a music conservatory, which she paid for by giving piano lessons. Hedi’s first position as an opera singer was in Trier, Germany. After three years in Trier, she was employed as an opera singer in Heidelberg, Germany, where she remained 13 years, singing over 90 different rolls, until she went to America with her husband, Hobart Campbell.

Within six months after arriving in her new country, Hedi and Hobart were called to pastor the Montoursville Presbyterian Church. During the next 30 years Hedi directed three choirs and taught piano lessons.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her extended family in Germany.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Twin Hill Memorial Park, Muncy.
