Gertrude E. Hunter, 98, a longtime resident of Montoursville, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Muncy.

Born April 29, 1927, in Montoursville, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Margaret (Harris) Karschner. On October 4, 1947, she married Allan S. Hunter who predeceased her on April 25, 2007. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Gertrude was a 1945 graduate of Montoursville High School. She worked various jobs before retiring after 25 years from GTE, Sylvania.

Gertrude was a lifetime member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, Montoursville.

She enjoyed crafting, counter cross stitching and jigsaw puzzles and family.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen A. Hunter and his wife, Susan, of Montoursville; John W. Hunter and his wife, Kathi, of Horseheads, NY; a son in law, Robert Harvey of Williamsport; two brothers, Donald and Glen Karschner; two sisters, Elsie Eck and Verna Horn; five grandchildren, Crystal Millard, Stephen Jr., Michael, Brian and Chad; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 step greatgrandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Harvey, two brothers, Robert and Calvin Karschner; and two sisters, Esther Miller and Doris “Irene” Nicholas.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Fairfield United Methodist Church, 833 Fairfield Church Rd., Montoursville. Friends will be received from Noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
