Fred E. McCarty Jr., 93, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, died Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Muncy Place.
Born October 31, 1932, in Montgomery, he was a son of the late Fred E. Sr. and Hazel (Hoff) McCarty. On September 1, 1951, he married the former Shirley M. Foust, who predeceased him on September 26, 2020. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Fred was a 1951 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. He worked as a machinist at Textron Lycoming, where he retired.
Fred more recently attended New Covenant Assembly of God, Montgomery.
He was a life member of the Clinton Twp. Fire Company, a member of the Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association, and a member of the Pennsylvania State Firemen’s Association.
In his spare time, Fred enjoyed fishing, woodworking making clocks, and building steam engines. He was also a member of the Red Ridge hunting club.
Surviving are two sons, David “Gunner” McCarty and Sally Miller, of Selinsgrove and Larry “Mick” McCarty and Dodie Smith, of Goodyear, AZ; a daughter, Peggy and Jay Dunlap, of Elimsport; a granddaughter, Kathryn Welch; and a great-granddaughter, Harper Welch.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a granddaughter in infancy, Lauren McCarty; and three siblings, Betty, Max and Boyd Robert.
Private services will be held with burial in Muncy Cemetery.
