Edith Marie Dowdy

Edith Marie Dowdy, 81, a resident of Muncy, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, at UPMC, Muncy.

She was born on October 22, 1944, in Mobile, AL, to the late Thomas and Yvonne (Salazar) Kenney. During her childhood, she moved to St. Louis, MO, where she later graduated from St. John the Baptist High School.

Edith was a loving mother, grandmother and matriarch of the family. She spent many years raising and caring for her family, working as a seamstress, and as a pharmacy assistant.

Edith was a member of Church of the Resurrection, Muncy, and in earlier years was very active in her church community in St. Louis.

She loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Edith loved going to the Muncy senior center where she was an avid fan of cards, bingo and board games. She was especially good at scrabble and boggle and known for her card playing abilities with all her friends.

Edith's priorities were always her family first and she was a girl scout leader while raising her daughter.

She is survived by two children, William Dowdy and his wife, Lisa, of Muncy, and Paula Smith and her husband, Dennis, of Stafford, VA; five siblings, Thomas, Karen, Frank and Mike Kenney, and Donna Newcomer; five grandchildren, Michael, Robert and Jennifer Dowdy, and John and Christopher Schlag; and three great-grandchildren, Jansen and Julian Schlag, and Sophie Dowdy.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Penny Branham.

A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 15 at Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, with Fr. Sean Carpenter, officiating.

Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
