Doris E. Swartz

Doris E. Swartz, 66, lifelong resident of Muncy, died peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at her new home in Hughesville.

Born January 26, 1959 in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Paul John and Opal Beulah (DeWald) Swartz.

Doris was a 1976 graduate of Muncy High School. Earlier in life, she worked at Bryfogles Nursery, Muncy, where she set up ornamental displays in the Mall. Doris then had a 40 plus year career at the former Muncy Bank, where she worked in many departments including book keeping, security and IT. During that time she attended Bucknell University and received a certificate in business. Doris retired from Muncy Bank, shortly after the merger with Journey Bank in December 2023.

Doris was of Christian faith. She loved animals and volunteered at numerous local animal shelters, fostering several lifelong friendships. Doris also enjoyed antiquing.

Surviving are two brothers, Grant (Helen) Swartz, of Mill Hall and Owen (Sandra) Swartz, of Huntersville; two sisters, Buela Swartz, of Muncy and Marlene Gibbs, of Hughesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Kenneth George, Arlan, Rodger, Carl and Roy Swartz; and a sister, Helen Bigger.

A Celebration of Doris’s life will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be held on the family lot in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to a local no kill animal shelter.
