Carl L. Shaffer, 88, of Winfield, died peacefully Monday, January 26, 2026 at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab Center, Millmont.
He was born April 19, 1937 in Winfield, a son of the late Ernest H. and Hattie Mae (Gill) Shaffer.
Carl was a 1955 graduate of Lewisburg High School. He served six years in the Army National Guard. Carl worked at Sherwin Williams, Lewisburg, doing paint sales and delivery until suffering an injury from a fall. He later worked at Metzger Meats and retired from the Bull Run Inn, where he did maintenance.
Carl was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Winfield. He was a member of the Union Township Fire Company and enjoyed helping with the carnival every year. An avid bird watcher and bowler; Carl was a former member of the Seven Mountains Audubon and for decades, looked forward to assisting with the Christmas bird count. Earlier in life, he was fond of duck hunting and taking photos of birds, near and far. In more recent years, Carl enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Surviving are a son, Lannie Shaffer, of Lewisburg; a daughter, Paula Shaffer, of Lewisburg; three grandchildren, Leander Shaffer and Clayton Shaffer, both of Lewisburg and Casey Peck, of Mifflinburg; and two great-grandchildren, Silas and Hattie Grace Peck.
He was the last of his immediate family, predeceased by five siblings.
