Barry W. Knauer, 80, of Lewisburg, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on February 4, 1945 in Shamokin Dam, he was a son of the late Banks and Eileen (Ditty) Knauer. On December 18, 2010 he married the former Lucie Rivoire, who survives.
Barry was a 1963 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Kings College. He enjoyed listing the many occupations he pursued over the years, including school bus driver, bartender, taxidermist, and teacher. He excelled at salesmanship, dealing in advertising, building products, and cars, as well as antiques as a weekend business during those years.
Since 2006, Barry and his wife co-owned a local antique shop. Their array of interesting items were a tribute to Barry's aptitude as a buyer. His mechanical abilities were put to use in restoring those pieces. Barry's willingness to share his extensive knowledge about the merchandise delighted many visitors to the shop. Building a clientele and developing friendships provided an immeasurable reward.
Boating and fishing gave Barry pleasure for many years. He enjoyed hosting friends at his home, offering hand-cranked homemade ice cream for dessert. Monday nights were devoted to playing poker with a group of friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Joshua Knauer and his wife, Gina, of CT, and Nathan Knauer, of Shamokin Dam; one sister, Sylvia Knauer, of Selinsgrove; and five grandchildren, Samantha, Jayden, Aiden, Hailey, and Sydney.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Sunday, June 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Fero Vineyards, Lewisburg.
Contributions in Barry's memory may be made to the William Cameron Engine Company in Lewisburg, or to the American Heart Association.
