Marlin M. Wertman, 86, of Muncy, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.

Born March 12, 1937 in Montgomery, he was a son of the late Van Dorn, Sr. and Alberta E. (Fritz) Wertman. On June 30, 1957 he married the former Naomi F. Vandine. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Marlin graduated from Muncy Junior-Senior High School in 1956.

Marlin was employed by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 42 years, working in Muncy, Montoursville, and Hughesville before retiring in 1996 as Manager of the Mount Pocono location.

Marlin was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy, where he sang in the choir, was on the Church Council, and served as parish visitor for many years.

Marlin was a collector of Wild West memorabilia and was known as Muncy’s #1 cowboy. He enjoyed many trips to Tombstone, Arizona with his wife.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Marlene W. Messner, of Cape Coral, Florida and Michele M. (Thomas) Smacher, of Dillsburg; four grandchildren, Dr. Sara Ryder (John) Emerson, of Greenville, South Carolina, Katerina A. (Colin) Walls, of London, United Kingdom, Gracen E. Smacher, of State College, and Christian M. Smacher, of Dillsburg; two great grandchildren, Mason N. and Ellis L. Emerson, of Greenville, South Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew, Gail (Edward) Lewis, of Sarasota, Florida, Joy (Dean) Barto, of Hughesville, Dr. Gary (Lynn) Wertman, Blair Mills, and Julie Souter, of Muncy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Van Dorn Jr. and Audrey Wertman, and a son-in-law, Donald L Messner.

Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 South Main Street, Muncy where the funeral will follow with his pastor, the Reverend Ben Lander, officiating.

Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
