Tonya Houseknecht Obituary

Tonya J. Houseknecht, 73, of White Deer, died Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at her home.

Born January 2, 1946 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Graydon and Mary (Felix) Crawford. She and her husband, Dale B. Houseknecht, celebrated 19 years of marriage before his death Apr. 27, 1992.

Tonya attended Montgomery Schools to the 10th grade, where she was a “A” student. She received her GED March 1, 1999. Tonya was a past member of the Roland Ritter American Legion Post 268, Muncy, where she worked as a waitress and bartender. She also worked for 40 years at the former Acme Markets as a department manager before retiring.

Tonya was of Baptist faith.

An avid tennis player, she was a member of the Williamsport Tennis Club and never missed a chance to watch the Wimble’s. Tonya also belonged to the pool league in Tivoli. She enjoyed watching hockey, rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Colorado Avalanche teams. Tonya was a fan of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt. She was fond of crafts, gardening, interior design, cooking, sewing, entertaining, painting and watching westerns and QVC. Tonya enjoyed listening to Elvis and Chris Kristofferson. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her pets, Cookie, Bun-Bun, Chelsea, Chili and Belena.

Surviving are three daughters, Marla Jo (Ted) Thomas, of Daytona, FL, Amy Cristine Swartz, of Montandon and Peggy Ann Troop, of Mt. Joy; three step daughters, Vicki, Kay and Gail Houseknecht; three siblings, Steven R. (Diane) Crawford, of Pennsdale, Lori L. (Paul) Staggert, of Elimsport and Jon K. Crawford, of Picture Rocks; seven grandchildren, Jason Hill, Fred Beers Jr., Logan Beers, Matthew Hill, Donavin Beers, Dylan Crosley and Eli Swartz; three step grandchildren, Jen Troop, Tyler Thomas and Samantha Woodridge; and 15 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Joan M. Crawford, sister-in-law, Belinda Crawford and a step grandson, Anthony Swartz.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Rice, pastor of Muncy Baptist Church, officiating.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contribution’s in Tonya’s name be made to either LAPS, 195 Phillips Park Dr., South Williamsport, PA 17702 or to the Wolf Sanctuary of PA, 465 Speedwell Forge Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.
