Kurt Hausammann Sr. Obituary

Kurt Hausammann Sr., 88, of Muncy, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

He was born on February 3, 1930 in Niederuzwil, Switzerland, a son of the late Albert and Claire (Mueller) Hausammann.

Kurt was educated in Switzerland, graduating high school in Niederuzwil and entering a four year apprenticeship at Buehler and their technical school in Uzwil, Switzerland.  In 1950 he graduated as a Certified Technician in Flour Milling Construction and entered Switzerland’s armed forces, as was required for all males reaching twenty years in age, unless having a medical excuse.

In 1953, he graduated from the College of Wels, Austria in Flour Milling Technology and subsequently was employed by Buehler as Project Technician in the flour milling plant design division.  During his beginning stages as technician, he was assigned to work under supervision of Buehler’s leading product engineer on the drafting board.  Kurt was a fast learner and advanced his career to earn the position of Project Engineer.

In 1955, Buehler and Sprout Waldron entered into a reciprocal agreement where Buehler acquired the technology in feed milling from Sprout Waldron in plant design, licensing equipment and manufacturing rights in Europe, while Sprout Waldron would obtain assistance in flour milling technology from Buehler.  With this newly formed agreement, Kurt was appointed by Buehler as project engineer to join the newly formed Muncy division.

In great anticipation of his new assignment, he was leaving his home country and would never forget the beautiful mountains and woods surrounding Williamsport as he landed to embark on his new journey.

On May 26, 1956, he married the former Beverly A. Hill, who survives, currently of Williamsport, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage.

In 1958, Kurt left Buehler and took employment directly with Sprout Waldron as Project Engineer of the Feed Milling Department.  In 1961, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.  During his 34 year career with Sprout Waldron, and its three successors and ownership changes, came various promotions and responsibilities changes including: Project Engineer of the Feed department, Sr. Project Engineer C&S division, Manager of Kopper’s Sprout Waldron, Inc. Foreign division, Manager of Project Engineering Sprout Bauer, Inc. and ABB Principal Engineer, Engineered Systems, Equipment division.  In 1990, Kurt retired from Sprout Bauer’s, now Andritz, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  In retirement, he worked at Sams Club, Muncy.

Kurt was a member of the Muncy Lodge No. 299, F&AM and a former 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite.  He was also a member of the Muncy Valley Moose 866.

Kurt attained a Professional Engineering license in Manufacturing.  He was a consultant to the U.S. Feeds and Grain council in Washington D.C., participating on their behalf as speaker in technical feed mill seminars in Russia, Egypt, Venezuela and China.  He often was a consultant to the Department of Agriculture’s feed division in Washington on publications in project design matters.

Surviving are two sons, Kurt Hausammann Jr. and his wife, Brenda, and Chris Hausammann, all of Hughesville;  two grandchildren, Kurt Hausammann III and his wife, Rosanna, and Patrick Hausammann and his wife, Christine; two great-granddaughters, Lana and Enza;

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Heidi Zellweger.
