Joan Border Koons Snyder, 82, of 1923 Pond Rd., Pennsdale, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born January 1, 1935 in Muncy, she was the daughter of the late Harold F. and Mary E. (Border) Koons. She and her husband, Kenneth N. Snyder, were married June 5, 1954. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

She was a life member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Muncy, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.

Joan was a 1952 graduate of Muncy High School. In the 1960’s, she served as the Vice President/President of the Muncy Elementary OPT and previously served as secretary/treasurer of the Muncy High School Alumni Association for 23 years and received the distinguished Alumni Award in May of this year.

She worked at various jobs locally throughout her life, volunteered in the Skilled Nursing Unit at the Muncy Valley Hospital for four years and was an active member of the Muncy Jaycees Wives until she reached the age limit. She was a friend of Bill W.

Joan enjoyed making silk flower arrangements for family members and friends. Most of all, she loved family get-togethers.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Melanie (Gregory) Eiswerth, of Muncy, Pamela (Valentine) Fenstermacher, of Watsontown and Betsey Richner, of Muncy; one son, Matthew (Kelly) Snyder, of Muncy; seven grandchildren, Ethan (Vanessa) and Trevor Eiswerth, Tyler and Dustin (Megan) Richner, Kiah (Riley) Richner-Gephart, and Mary K. Snyder  and Noah Snyder; two step grandchildren, Lisa (Fred) Wilt and Tracy (Jason) Horn; four great-grandchildren, Mari and Calise Eiswerth, Carter Richner and Zoey Richner-Gephart; and six step great-grandchildren, Cindie and Alexis Wilt, and Devin, Ryan, Jacob and Emma Horn.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Douglas and Kenneth Snyder II and a brother, H. Frederick Koons.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, with her pastor, the Rev. Daniel P. Landin, officiating, assisted by the Rev. James R. Taylor, retired SUN Home Hospice chaplain.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions to be made to either Shepherd of the Streets, P. O. Box 2184, Williamsport, PA 17703 or to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756.
