Bobby Gene McCreary, 95, of Montoursville, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born April 27, 1924 in Northumberland, he was a son of the late Harold M. and Catherine H. (Carr) McCreary. He and his wife, the former Gladys M. Whitmire, celebrated 55 years of marriage before her death Aug. 29, 2005.
Bobby was a 1942 graduate of Northumberland High School. He served honorably with the Army during World War II. Bobby then attended Berklee College of Music. He worked as a public accountant and was a jazz musician, founder of the Bobby McCreary Big Band.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Montoursville.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Glenn E. McCreary, of Muncy and Frere Paul L. McCreary, of Fontgombault, France; a step brother and his wife, William and Molly Geise, of Northumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Leonard and Lew McCreary and a brother-in-law and his wife, Harold and Gloria Shields.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a prayer vigil will be held at 6:45 p.m. led by Father Michael McCormick.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, with the Rev. Glenn McCreary, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Bobby’s name be made to the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, PA 17756.
