Bernard Bogus Obituary

Bernard S. “Bernie” Bogus, 81, of Mifflinburg, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville with his family by his side.

Born December 1, 1942 in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Stanley B. and Helen E. (Ignatovich) Boguszewski.  On November 28, 1970 he married the former Linda Sampsell, who predeceased him on December 13, 2009.  He later married the former Carole Brown on October 16, 2010, who survives.

Bernard graduated high school in Shamokin.  He worked many jobs through the years including as a manager at Bituminous Emulsion, a foreman at ACF Industries, at the Snyder and Northumberland County Prisons, and as a bus driver for both Catawissa and Rohrer.  He also owned and operated his own food truck for many years.

Bernard was a member of the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 V.F.W., Muncy, Weikert Sportsman Club, Middleburg Moose Lodge 1229 and the Americus Hose Company, Sunbury.  He was also formerly active as and EMT and Firefighter.

Bernard enjoyed woodworking in his garage, and camping and boating on the Susquehanna River.  He also loved western movies, polka music, bus trips to Mohegan Sun, and going out to eat with friends.  Bernard was famously known as the “two dollar man”, as he gave away $2 bills to many of the children, students, nurses and others he encountered throughout his life.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by five children, Stanley (Pat) Bogus, of New Columbia, Crystal (Bill) Hesketh, of Bellefonte, Bernadine (Doug) Richard, of Middleburg, Stacy (Sean) Bogus, of Hughesville and Scott (Crystal) Gemberling, of Mifflinburg; one stepdaughter, Kelly (Dane) Stine, of Mifflinburg; one sister, Dorothy (Carl) Berge, of Winfield; one sister-in-law, Dolores Hightower, of Laurelton; one daughter-in-law, Karen Bogus, of Hanover; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including one on the way.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Ronnie; and one daughter, Patricia.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15 with Pastor Marian K. Anderson, officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Following the burial the family welcomes everyone to the Muncy VFW for a continued time of fellowship.
