William D. "Bill" Zimmerman

April 21, 1948 ~ January 17, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

William D. “Bill” Zimmerman, 68, of Muncy died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

Born April 21, 1948 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late William “Red”  and Audrey (Walters) Zimmerman.

Bill was a graduate of Hughesville High School.  He served honorably with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War in the “Red Horse Unit”. Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator for 50 years, first with Bud Neidig Center State Amesite and most recently with Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.

He was of the Christian faith.

Bill was a member of the Glenn Sharrow Post 35 American Legion, Hughesville and the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 VFW, Muncy.

He enjoyed playing poker, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren that playfully called him “pappy with the backhoe”.

Surviving are a daughter, Paulinena and Michael Kellar, of Pittsburgh; Bill’s fiancé, Sharon Huyck, of Hughesville and her children, Schanna and Tino Penzone, of Breingsville, and Brad and Brynn Huyck, of Bellefonte; three brothers, Jack and Janet Zimmerman, of Pennsdale, and Ronald and Rodney Zimmerman, both of Hughesville; seven grandchildren, Cairistiona, Arionna, Gabriella and Carson Kellar, Ethan, Gavin and Liam Rounds; and Paulinena’s mother, Monica Zimmerman, of Lakeland, FL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Zimmerman.

Honoring Bill's request, there will be no funeral or burial services.

His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing Unit & Rehabilitation Center and the Gatehouse for all of their kindness and expertise.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to either the Gatehouse or Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing Unit & Rehabilitation Center. Please make checks payable to the Susquehanna Health Foundation and mailed to 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
