Robert N. “Bob” Campbell, 91, of 1041 E. Penn St., Muncy, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Muncy Valley Hospital.

Born November 7, 1924 in Benton, he was a son of the late Warren N. and Pauline (Meeker) Campbell. On February 14, 1947 he married the former O. Lucille Eichenlaub, who survives. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Bob was a 1942 graduate of Montoursville High School. He served honorably in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Wyoming. On a GI bill he attended Williamsport Technical Institute and graduated in 1949 with a degree in plumbing, heating and blue print.

Bob began his career with Ed Doyne Plumbing and Heating, where he worked as a foreman from 1947 to 1958. In 1958 he began his own contracting business, which he operated until his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of the Muncy Masonic Lodge #299, F & AM, the Williamsport Consistory, the Muncy Rotary, where he served as past president, a charter member of the Muncy JC, member of the Wheel Inn, and the East Greenwood Valley Hunting Lodge. Bob was also a member of the Muncy High School board from 1964 to 1980, where he served as president for two years.

His desire to help others in need led to his membership of the Keystone Hook and Ladder Co., Muncy, where he was also a life line member and served as assistant chief and chief for 25 years. The company voted him in as an honorary chief and he served as the chairman of the new fire station committee built in 1979 on S. Main St.

Bob was also the Muncy Creek Twp. Zoning officer and on the planning board for many years.  He served on the Intermediate Unit Board, where he was president for one year and received a plaque from the Intermediate Unit Educational Service in 1979, also having served for five years on their board.

Bob’s community involvement extended past club memberships, as was evident in his love of baseball. He played West Branch baseball for years, umpired little league baseball and American league baseball and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.  He also loved golfing and belonged to the former Turbot Hills Golf Club, now Wynding Brook.

Overall, Bob was a memorable citizen as he received the Certificate of Merit in 1984, in recognition of outstanding service awarded in the Muncy area.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children and their spouses, Susan Jean and Jim Bralich, of Bolton Valley, Vermont, Peggy C. and Jay Schively, of Williamsport, Roger N. and Cathie Campbell, of Muncy and Bette Jo and Ronald Gill, of Upperco, Maryland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Margaret Ann Campbell, of Hughesville and Ronnie and Sandy Campbell, of Pennsdale; two sisters, Charlotte Henninger, of Florida, and Phyllis Watson, of Allenwood; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
