Helen Binder (Brynzey) Picard

Cherished mother and grandmother, Helen Binder Picard, 94, of Montgomery, passed away on June 9, 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa, she was the youngest child of Pauline (Stasyk) and Simon Binder.  Independent and self-reliant, she grew up an active, creative, and inquisitive young woman.

During WWII her brother, Walter, encouraged his friend, Hobart Picard, to write to his sister.  Helen and Hobart met while he was on leave.  It was love at first sight. They married in 1944.

In 1955 the family, now including three children, moved to Waldwick, NJ where Helen was a homemaker and Hobart a civil engineer in NYC.  A fourth child was born later.   For 25 years, in addition to caring for her family, Helen was very active in the community. She served as President, Garden Club Chair, and in other roles in the Women’s Club of Waldwick. She was a talented painter, crafter and seamstress for her home and children.  She taught craft classes and created beautiful flower gardens on their property. Later she also worked for Addressograph Multigraph and B. Altman.  Her wit, optimism, humor and generous spirit touched many.

In 1980, Helen and Hobart retired to Montgomery, Pa  where they lived for the next 35 years.  Helen enjoyed gardening and continued her craft work.  She also enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren and formed close bonds with several neighbors. Hobart later passed away but Helen remained independent as always.

Helen is survived by her four children: Richard Picard and his wife Colleen of Elko, MN; Edward Picard and his wife Adele Aboutok of Andover, NJ; Joyce Picard-Busse and her husband George Busse of Waynesboro, PA and Nancy Picard of Hackensack, NJ.  Grandchildren are Shelly Picard and Scott Canavan, Eric Picard, Ron and May Picard, Greg Picard, Amy and Kevin Mewborn, Matt and Kim Busse and Garrett Busse; Great-Grandchildren, Ali and Nick Hill-Deluca, Dayton Busse, Grayson Busse and Natalya Mewborn.  She will also be remembered by close and loving neighbors: Lori and Jake Masser and family, Elaine Alexander, and Lanessa and Dan Taylor and family.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a time of sharing will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
